Gunnison River, Colorado

11AM – 4:30PM
35 degrees
48 x 96 inch acrylic on polycarbonate

A large surface to work on with the shorter days was exhilarating. The sun was mostly filtered light and allowed for a buttery feel to the paint. There was a great color of silver, gold, white and blue to kick off the initial action and highlights of the fly cast painting. Special characteristics on this part of the river was a strong presence of a reddish/orange dominance of the rocks on the bottom, a great location of the tail end of a large slow pool coupled with some laughing riffles on the lower part of the run. The 8wt. spey was a welcome action to the latter part of the action to the painting.
